in massachusetts teachers senator scott brown, a republican, is in challenger elizabeth warren, a democrat. in the 2010, scott brown won a set -- one a special election for the seat, long held by ted kennedy. this debate comes to us courtesy of wshm tv and was held in springfield on october 10. a final debate was scheduled for october 30 but was canceled because of hurricane sandy. >> good evening. welcome to symphony hall for a debate between scott brown and elizabeth warren. i am honored to be the moderator tonight. we have rules this evening. our audience of more than 2600 guests have agreed to be silent. no interruptions or applause. each candidate has a minute and 30 seconds to answer each question, and 30 seconds for rebuttal. later, each candidate gets one minute for a closing statement. a coin toss has determined the speaker order. we have received more than 200. every question is based on an idea from the public. elizabeth warren won the first coin toss. just last week, we saw the national unemployment numbers fall below 8%. millions of americans are still looking for jobs. things

brown. this morning a lot of folks in the northeast are asking how much more can we take? barely more than a week after superstorm sandy an unusually early winter storm is hitting the region with a nasty mix of rain, snow and gusty winds. the storm moved up the coast overnight icing roads and disrupting air travel and causing more trouble for an already fragile system. from 60,000 customers who just had their power restored lost it again. teresa garcia is in rockaway beach, new york. good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning, terrell. like it or not, ready or not, people in this tri-state region are pretty storm weary but they had to power through a nor'easter that brought a lot of snow, windy conditions, slushy and miserable out there. this is actually a snowstorm that's proving to be on track to break records for snowfall in november. for example, in central park about four inches fell. here at rockaway beach on the boardwalk, definitely more than three. and all this snow is bascally going to make those clean up efforts after superstorm sandy that much more difficult for those

former d.c. council chair kwame brown should spend six days in jail and three years on probation for bank fraud. court papers filed yesterday. brown resigned from council back in june after admitting he gave false information on applications to get two loans from banks worth more than 200,000. he could be sentenced up to six months in prison for his crime. prosecutors say brown accepted responsibility for his misconduct and has no prior criminal record. the actual sentencing by a federal judge is set for november 3 1 3th. >>> could be weeks or months before the man accused of throwing pipe bombs at three morn virginia homes is extradited to the commonwealth. laurence stewart ii was arrested. he drove all the way to the northwest and threw the bombs. police believe he was targeting his ex-girlfriend and two law enforcement officers who arrested him in the past. >> we've taken this very personal. this is a detective and deputy who was targeted, they and their families, as a result of just doing their jobs, in addition to that, this was an attack on an innocent victim of domestic violence, s

: the presidential race won't be affected or the senate races. but prop 30 governor brown's tax proposition is really in peril. 48% in some polls, 52% in other polls. kind of hanging on by a thread. democrats home this last-minute surge in registered voters will result inputting prop 30 over the top. now, of course, that means that these young voters have to do more than register. they have to vote. so we'll see how that works out. >> it's close. what if it fails? governor brown says he has these trigger cuts and it go will after education. will he do it? >> reporter: exactly. so everyone should understand that these trigger cuts to education are a legislative creation. there's nothing in the budget process that should put our deficit on education. this is specifically done to scare people into voting for prop 30. in order for it to works the governor has to convince people that the cuts are inevitable. he has said he will veto any attempts to change or to cut back on these trigger cuts. having said that, democrats will tell you kind of off the record that they don't really expect that this powerful
